Chris Jasper passed away (73)

The funk and R&B world has lost another legend. Last Friday, soul legend Gwen McCrae took her last breath. The day before yesterday, Chris Jasper also passed away. Former member of The Isley Brothers and later Isley-Jasper-Isley, passed away on February 23, 2025 at the age of 73 after a two-month battle with cancer.
Jasper played a crucial role in the transformation of The Isley Brothers into a leading R&B and funk band in the 70s and 80s. With his virtuoso keyboard playing and compositional talent, he contributed to timeless hits such as “For the Love of You”, “Between the Sheets” and “Fight the Power”. After his period with The Isley Brothers, he founded Isley-Jasper-Isley, with which he released the world hit “Caravan of Love” in 1985.
As a solo artist, Jasper released 17 albums and remained active in music. His contribution to funk and R&B history was recognized with a place in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
On Amsterdam Funk Channel you regularly hear Chris Jasper with well-known classics such as Between The Sheets and Caravan of Love, but also later work from, for example, his albums Inspired from 2013 and Dance With You from 2018.
With the passing of Chris Jasper, the music world loses a visionary musician who has influenced generations of artists. His sound will continue to live on in the countless samples, covers and of course his own iconic work and on Amsterdam Funk Channel you will hear him often.
RIP Chris Jasper (December 30, 1951 – February 23, 2025).
